This weekend we hosted our first VW club event.... The vans started arriving in the afternoon on Friday and enjoyed a brilliant weekend with a lot of fantastic sunshine. Great to see the mix of different vans. It reminded me of the days when we had our own VW camper, a Californian LH drive High Top fitted out with driftwood from St Ives. A complete and total disaster mechanically... but we had some good times in her.
Absolutely beautiful location with great views today, although the rolling mist yesterday obscured the sea completely. The club members enjoyed a gourmet burger meal, prime beef, lamb or felafel served with potato, couscous and garden salad and followed by Lemon Chiffon, Eton Mess or Chocolate Brownie. They also had the marquee but luckily the weather held out for them so that they could enjoy toasting marshmallows over the fire pits in the mild evenings. The sky put on a spectacular show as well with the Milky Way and shooting stars clearly visible. This fabulous photo by John Lockie shows how dramatic the sky is - there is little light pollution up on the site, so just perfect for star-gazing.
We were lucky enough to have another visit from Sid, his family the baby owl Wiki and a friend who also brought a baby owl aptly named Albus... Albus spent most of his time in the picnic basket but did take a little wander across the field... He is a baby Snowy Owl, so a lot bigger than Wiki but a few weeks younger.
We are going to be holding a "Meet the Owls" event on August Bank Holiday Monday when Sid will be coming along with his fabulous Eagle Owl, and there may be other owls present too... (A Parliament I believe) Keep your eyes on our Facebook page for more information. Just got to work out an Owl themed menu.... any ideas anyone ???
