I had planned to write a "behind the scenes" blog this week .....To let you in on some of the behind the scenes work that goes on - so I will give you just a small taster of that ! There will be more to come in the next blog. Our very own Jamie Walker grass cutting and Maddie filling in the fridge temperatures in our logbook..
Everyone knows that we are doggy friendly and with a great big field for dogs and owners to run around in it is just perfect. We are also owl friendly and have two beautiful owls that visit us regularly - Wiki and Oscar... We are also horsey friendly with a section of the field fenced off for horsey visitors- so why not enjoy a cup of tea on horseback ??? This week we welcomed some great horses from Cornwall's Swimming Horses -
Above all we are also people friendly and you can be assured of a warm welcome... children have lots of space to run around and we have a selection of games they can play. Our latest acquisition is a marble run which will be up at the bus once the weather settles down and once Richard has finished playing with it !!!
Our full menu is on our website and just to prove I have mastered how to click on a button and go to the right place try this one !!!
,In addition to all the menu items we also have regular Vegan Specials/Vegetarian options and are happy to cater for individual needs. There is also a good selection of delicious home-baked cakes available. As some people have had a little difficulty finding our enormous double decker bus cafe, presumably because of sunglasses and fog - the postcode is TR20 8BQ and look out for our new signs -
Finally our opening hours are 10am-4pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday......if you haven't been yet - come along we'd love to see you.
This is Maude (age 37) in the process of making some manure and sharing her tea with the chooks... who are in the process of making some eggs...
So we are developing some homegrown produce for Bus Fayre so that our food really does contain the freshest ingredients... The polytunnel is really only half a polytunnel at the moment as storm Doris has wreaked havoc.. This hasn't stopped us though and we have chillies, coriander, lettuce, oriental lettuce, French radish, peppers, tomatoes, electric daisies , strawberries, liquorice, kiwi, and grapes. A new cover will be going on this week - we are hoping that this will deter the geese and chickens who like to pop in for a snack occasionally as well as the blackbird who is particularly fond of red grapes. In the outside garden our raspberries, rhubarb, runner beans, dwarf beans, broad beans, peas, courgette and beetroot are all doing well.
Wildlife in abundance at the moment up near the bus. We have had a visit from the fox which has feasted on three of our chickens so the ladies are quite closely supervised at the moment - so are the chickens. There has been a rabbit visiting the vegetable garden (his name is **** OFF ) and goldfinches and swallows are seen regularly.
We are members of NCAAS the Nationwide Catering Association and therefore ensure that staff are trained properly in Food Hygiene. Congratulations to the newest and oldest member of the team Maddie gained her Food Hygiene Level 2 this week... Who would have thought someone so old could remember so much information (only kidding Mum, only kidding x)
It has been a really lovely start to the season, seeing all of our lovely regulars and some new customers too. We are really busy at the weekend but Fridays have been quite quiet so if you are free on a Friday and would like to pop along we really need you...save us from ourselves !!! Things we do when we aren't busy on a Friday include :
Cleaning the ceilings
Filling in the paperwork
Cleaning the ceilings some more
Doing the crossword
Cleaning the floors
Moving kitchen items into new places so other members of staff can't find them (Louise)
Taking the fridge temperatures
Writing shopping lists
Cleaning the floors some more
Anti-baccing ( if such a word exists) the tables
And REPEAT !!!
Our new menu is out and once I have fathomed out the technology it will be posted onto our website. Do not hold your breath for this one... We also have homemade cakes and Vegan specials .... This weekend we have carrot cake, fruit cake, cupcakes, pavlova, cream teas, Sicilian pastries, banana and chocolate cake and millionaire slices ... Delicious - we sampled them all on Friday !!!!
